Firstly thank you for taking the time to consider having me coach you.

To let you know a little about me... I came from a very early sporting background of playing field hockey as a youngster. I played hockey at State Level before learning what it was like to party. From my late teens to early 20's I blew out to 240 pounds before I realised how much I missed sport. I took up triathlon in late 2001 and kicked it off with a Half Ironman in Forster Australia. From there the rest is history. Today, I have completed 19 Ironmans since 2001 with five as an age grouper while I was running my business in construction, and 14 as a pro. Since turning pro I have only been outside of the Top 10 once. I've also had eight Top 5 finishes with a personal best of 8:24 over the IM distance and 3:56 over the half IM distance.

I offer a very personal based coaching package and I only take on a very small group of driven people.

I have athletes from all ranges of ability and age, but we all have one thing in common... we are driven to achieve our goals. That may be tp beat that midnight hour cut off, get a Hawaii slot, or for some, to dip under that magical nine-hour barrier.

Ragnar racing IMNZ In January 2005 I traveled to Christchurch, New Zealand with an aim to get in shape for Ironman New Zealand in March. Coming from the Norwegian winter I knew it was going to be a long shot but since I am an optimist I was going to give it a try. My training in the last few months of 2004 had been really bad and I had been sick a lot, mostly because I did too much of everything (job/training/friends). I had hardly been on my bike but I had done a lot on running on the snow. When I showed up at the pool in Christchurch I was really worried and I had pretty much given up on a good result in March.

One of the first days in training Chris offered to help me out with a training program and he also offered me to do some training with him. We did some talking and he gave me many good ideas. Together we developed a program that suited me and it was very balanced over the three different events (swim, bike and run). Since I am a former swimmer we decided not to focus too much on my swimming. After a few weeks on "The Chris Program" I started to feel much more fit and as we got closer to the race I was getting more confident that I was going to have a good result. Going in to the race Chris also gave me a lot of advice on how to develop my nutrition plan and I ended up with a plan that was totally different from what I would have made on my own. I have always had problems with a very sensitive stomach and my plan for the nutrition was great. In the race I ended up finishing second in my age group (18-24) and I also qualified for Hawaii/Kona. I did my swim in 50:17, which felt really easy. I had my best bike ever and did a split of 5:10. I finished up with a life-best run on 3:17. The result, 9:22, was a big PB for me and I was really happy with my own performance.

From being totally out of shape, Chris helped me to get in the best possible shape in 9 weeks. He gave me answers to all my questions and I think he has the best possible background for coaching athletes. He has been an average agegroup athlete who had to work long hours. He knows what it takes to compete at the highest level and he definitely helped to make a program that suited me.

I did my first triathlon in 2001. I guess I started the way that most of us do, with the local tri of a 200 metre swim, a 16 kilometre bike and a 4 kilometre run. I clearly remember it because I had to stop twice at the end of the pool in the swim to catch my breath and I walked about a kilometre and a half of the run. After recovering from the shock of that race I realized how much I really enjoyed the experience.

Looking to experience a bigger achievement I did my first Ironman in Australia in 2002. Wanting to only finish, I did so in 10h50min and 350th position. It was at this stage I realized that I would go a lot quicker if I had a program or even better, a coach. It was at this point I started asking for advice from Chris. Through his help and experience I finished my second Ironman with a PB of over 30 minutes.

I have the utmost respect for Chris because he has not only taught me how to approach my sport in a more professional way but how to set and achieve goals as well as really enjoy what I do. He realizes my life situations and allows for that in his programs. He has worked with me through high work loads, incorporating a heavy race calendar including five Ironman in one year, four of them in seven months. He also realizes the importance of family life. Chris knows that different people have different goals and they need to be achieved in their own ways. He has the ability to inspire people to achieve beyond their dreams. I draw all my confidence from knowing that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things and Chris is living proof of this.

Through Chris' help and experience I have gone from a person who couldn't swim two laps of a pool without stopping to exiting an Ironman swim in 52 minutes. In three years he has coached me through ten Ironman finishes (two in the top thirty), a top 10 finish in the national short course championships, second in my age group in both short and long course championships, and competition in three world championships at two different distances. And I achieved PBs all the way through.

With Chris' guidance I not only look forward to working together to reach my goals but to sitting down with a beer and sharing the stories of how we got there!
